2010.

I have to do something to keep me awake since I’m waiting for the eclipse to happen in just a few minutes from now. New Year and eclipse happen at the same time. Don’t you find it ironic? Maybe not many people are aware of the eclipse, so you can read the info here.

I can just simply say that 2009 was a good year for me. Mind the bad examination results. Engineering is hard. And I’m just another one lazy ass. So it served me right. But it such bummers because I did put a lot of effort on it but still the result really disappoint me. I should try harder. My parents don’t deserve another disappointment from me.

So, it’s January the 1st. I’m getting older and I’m approaching 22. I hate that, and I’m trying to pretend that age is just a number. There's one great opportunity though. Brand new expectations are set, expectations just waiting to be shattered. Like an empty Moleskine notebook, the possibilities are exciting.

Why not exceed them?

Honestly speaking, I don’t have any new resolution for this year. I always came out with tons of resolution but I didn’t manage to cross it out from the list. Every year I fail at them miserably. I have made many of the same ones many of you have made over the years; the I am going to lose weight, I am going to score during exams, and the list goes on and on.

So I figured, what’s the point of having any?

I feel it is a waste of time to make these silly New Year's resolutions because do we really want to try to stick to something that could possibly never happen throughout the year due to various factors that happen? I would rather set a goal when I feel like it and know I can make those goals.

For example, my goal was to be hired as a wedding photographer which I did few times now. Somehow I manage to buy a SLR which I did two years ago. And trust me you don’t want to know how I saved up for it, because I simply don’t.

The point is, it’s better to have goal that you can make one anytime when it’s necessary, rather than making any New Year's resolutions. I won't feel so let down and depressed if I don't make them. The stress of trying to stick to them is harder than not making any at all.

I would rather live in the moment, do things as I please, and achieve things when I feel my best. I am the kind of person who would rather go down the road less traveled. I feel I will find more things that will fit into my lifestyle and personality this way than trying to control every situation with a list of New Year's resolutions.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be negative here. This post is not meant to be perceived as negative. It is supposed to be a positive statement, a strong statement. A statement that helps me stand my ground no matter what life brings to the surface. And that is exactly how I would like 2010 to be. A year where I can finally say, "Fuck it".

It’s the New Year and there’s no harm celebrating it. No matter how you are celebrating it. In fact I will definitely going to celebrate it every year.

What better way to celebrate the big night than with family and friends? It doesn't matter where you whoop it up, as long you can say you rang in the New Year with loved ones. This year I’m celebrating it in front of my two years old Lenovo laptop, while watching a movie about pizza's families on Hallmark. I just wish Sayang is here with me so I can blow him a big kiss. Damn, I'm so in love with this boy.

Haha.

I am wishing you all a good 2010 and hope everyone has a good year. Remember to look for the good in everyone you meet, and not jump to assumptions about people. Give a smile, give a hug, and give a kind word.

Happy New Year!

=)

  1. Happy New Year 2010 Yan! =)
    I wish U a good & promising year ahead.

The best new year's resolution is not to have one. I think it's a silly tradition (in my opinion).

Good luck with your wedding photography. You are one passionate friend of mine. =)
